Cycling
Cycling is an economical, environmentally friendly and healthy means of transport. It provides a realistic alternative to the car for many short trips, especially those that do not require significant baggage to be carried.
According to the British Medical Association 'cycling twenty miles a week halves the risk of heart attack. Regular cyclists are as fit as non cyclists ten years younger.

‘On yer bike’ Cycle Scheme
A special ‘On Yer Bike’ transport initiative to supply a cycle for every home on
Kingsway is now underway.
Every household on Kingsway will be given a bicycle in line with the development’s
recently launched Transport Plan.
One of the plan’s key aims is to encourage more cycling throughout the development
and surrounding area.
Bike vouchers for all
The eight new homes developers on Kingsway will all purchase a new cycle for every
home they build. Purchasers of a new home on Kingsway will be issued with a single
special voucher when they move into their new home.
They can exchange the voucher for a man’s or woman’s cycle at the Halfords store
in Eastern Avenue, Gloucester, or if residents prefer, they can use the voucher
to make a £75.00 contribution towards the purchase of the cycle of their choice.
Residents already living on Kingsway will be supplied Cycle Scheme vouchers retrospectively.
Says Gloucester Halfords Store Manager Gareth Holbrook,”The XC26 – the cycle
offered under this scheme – is a first rate machine with18 gears and, of course,
it meets all British Safety standards.
It is a highly appropriate machine to be part of this exciting scheme and is ideal
for day to day use. It is available in different frame sizes so every resident can
feel very much at home on this machine.”
