Public Transport
The reality of public transport provision in Quedgeley from the neighbouring settlements
is much better than the perception. The Kingsway development is located on a main
bus route providing fast and convenient access to Gloucester town centre.

Bus Service
An effective transport policy is a vital part of Kingsway and has been planned with
a view to achieving the preservation of the area’s environment. A key element of
the transport to and from the city centre is the new South-West Bypass, due to be
completed this year. The bypass will provide a good road link from the area to the
centre of Gloucester and on to other major routes around the county.
Regular bus service for Kingsway
Kingsway now has its own bus service, to be provided by Stagecoach.
The number 14 Citi-bus service operates between the Kingsway development and Gloucester
city centre taking in the nearby Quedgeley centre as well. Two of the six daily
services will run on to the nearby town of Stroud.
The service is provided by six brand new buses which have the highly recognisable
dual green coloured Kingsway development logo on the smart eye catching blue and
red bus livery.
The buses have modern wide doors and step free entrances for easy excess for the
elderly and disabled and those with young children in buggies.
The route
There are two bus stops installed on the Kingsway development itself. The route
for the Number 14 service is from Stroud Merrywalks to and from Gloucester. It travels
via the A38 (Southern Connector) then into Kingsway, left into Woodvale, left into
Valley Gardens, go under the bridge carrying the A38 to join Bristol Road (B4008)
at the roundabout near the Tesco Supermarket and then northwards to Gloucester.
Journeys starting at Kingsway commence from Woodvale (junction with Kingsway) then
Valley Gardens and as above. There are localised route variations on the services
14a and 14b.

Free bus pass for Kingsway residents
To mark the launch of the new service, all Kingsway households will be given a one
month Megabus pass, which allows for unlimited travel on Stagecoach bus services
right across the Gloucester city area from Brockworth, Highnam and Churchdown and
all points in between.
Explains Stagecoach Marketing Manager Nathan Williams, “The Mega bus passes will
be made available - along with the local route 14 mini-guide timetable - to Kingsway
residents as they move in to their new homes. Soon we will distribute dated Megabus
passes and timetable mini guides to homes already occupied on Kingsway.”
The Kingsway Travel Plan
Public transport, of which the key part is the new Number 14 route Kingsway bus
service, is at the core of Kingsway’s expert, carefully developed Travel Plan. The
plan aims to cut the usage of cars and make it easier for residents to travel in
other, more environmentally, friendly ways.
Martin Dolan of experts Cwbran-based Capita Symonds is leading the production of
the plan.
Says Martin, “It’s great news that Kingsway now has its own bus service. We believe
that, in the future, residents on developments such as Kingsway are likely to be
attracted by a wide range of transport benefits and an environment where the intrusion
of cars and traffic is minimised. That is the aim of our travel plan - to ensure
such benefits are, in time, very much part of life here on Kingsway.
The Kingsway Travel Plan aims to meet the social, economic and environmental aspirations
of all the residents here. Their support and co-operation will make it a success
and I’m very hopeful we are going about things in the right way so we achieve a
really positive response from this exciting new community.”
